50 x 50 x 1.8 cm Ink and Acrylic paint on canvas 400 Euros I needed to create something on the theme of encounters (for a reason that will hopefully become clear in May 🤞). I started to think about all the different types of encounters, meetings, etc…and I was inspired by a memory of one of the very best types of encounters: dance! I love to dance, but I also love to watch great dancing. I got nostalgic for that wonderful feeling I used to get when watching old Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies. The sheer joy and exuberance as they danced together, becoming one with the music and responding to it and each other, and that happy ending romantic feeling of their movies all came back to me. I looked for a photo online, found a decent one (black and white) and put the great music from these movies on Spotify while I worked over several sessions and many layers. This is not meant to look like Astaire & Rogers, but to express that “Carefree”, joyful feeling that their amazing dancing and that fabulous Swing music inspired in me. If you see a little Edward Munch influence, it’s not surprising, as I do love his art!
